Sam Sim brings unique global perspectives combining industry, academic and policy experience.
He is presently consultant to the United Nations for Digital Tax, Senior Advisor to the Vienna University Global Tax Policy Centre, a member of NYU International Tax Program’s Practice Council and a member of his country’s Income Tax Review Board hearing tax appeals.
He was Regional Vice-President (Europe, Middle-East, Africa, Asia and Latin America), Tax Executive Institute and chair of Capital Markets Tax Committee TP sub-committee, having led regional and global teams at a FTSE100 European MNE and at the largest US global Technology MNE.
He is passionate in digital taxation and transfer pricing. He is the WTS Global APAC leader for digital tax and transfer pricing. He has researched on technology and taxation at the Center for Artificial Intelligence at SMU, co-authored IEEE and IBM Research papers on Blockchain and had lectured for 10 years at the Master of Tax programme at the SUSS, University of Leiden's Executive Tax Program, Vienna University and IBFD programmes. He is a lead editor of Asia Voices: BEPS and Beyond (IBFD), the foremost book on the G20-OECD Base Erosion and Profit Shifting in Asia.
He was a tax attorney in New York, a Singapore Chartered Accountant and holds graduate degrees in Tax Law (NYU LL.M.(Tax), Economics (M.A., Cambridge University) and Accounting (MPA, SMU) and has held multiple board level appointments including serving on the board of Tax Analysts (USA) and on audit and risk and disciplinary committees in other organizations.
