The German Packaging Congress is the leading event of the German packaging industry. Executives, top experts and opinion leaders from the circular economy exchange ideas at the annual summit. The event is organised by the German Packaging Institute (dvi).
In addition to current questions on the key topics of materials, recyclates and communication, the megatrend of sustainability will be in the foreground. This year there will be an additional focus on Generation Z. Representatives of renowned companies such as Nestlé, Unilever, Henkel, BASF, Schwarz Gruppe, Procter & Gamble, Reckitt Benckiser, Tetra Pak, McKinsey and TikTok, non-profit organisations such as WWF and NABU as well as the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy guarantee an inspiring and multi-faceted exchange. Opinionated public figures such as the actor Hannes Jaenicke and the environmental spokesperson of the FDP parliamentary group Judith Skudelny will also deliver lectures.
In this context, WTS Global invites to an international discussion panel on the implementation of the plastic tax in the EU member states. In cooperation with the dvi, WTS Global already held an international webinar with eight European WTS Global partners in November 2020. The event was extremely well received by the association members and many other interested parties, so that the awareness of the brand WTS Global was massively increased in this industry sector. After a follow-up webinar focused on German legislation in January 2021, the international exchange of experience will now be continued.
The following excise experts will report on current developments in their countries for WTS Global:
Dates: 17 and 18 March 2021, 10 am
In July 2020, EU Member States agreed to introduce a levy on non-recycled plastic packaging waste from 01.01.2021 as a new source of own resources to finance the EU budget. This plastic levy is to be paid by the Member States to the Confederation and is intended to compensate for the COVID 19-related additional burdens. To refinance the levy, some states have already drafted concrete legislative proposals for the introduction of a new plastic tax. The plans are particularly advanced in Spain, Italy and Great Britain. Others states have announced that they do not want to introduce a new tax at all. Most countries have only very vague plans. An EU-wide harmonisation of the plans is currently neither planned nor in sight.
