ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGY
OUR ACTIONS

Actively protecting our environment

Together with our employees, we want to make a positive contribution to the global climate goals of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. For us, assuming ecological responsibility means actively protecting the environment. We have defined three areas of action in our environmental strategy: Climate change. Planetary boundaries. Knowledge and know-how.

Field of action 1
Climate change
Climate change is one of the most urgent ecological problems of our time. For us as the WTS Group, our first area of action is therefore to improve our carbon footprint. As a pure consulting firm, we have three main levers at our disposal: Business travel, office buildings and IT area. We focus on environmentally friendly travel alternatives, the use of renewable energies, increasing energy efficiency, ecological design and technical solutions for our buildings, environmentally conscious purchasing and digitalization.
Field of action 2
Planetary boundaries
To avoid exceeding planetary boundaries in the future, we focus on the sustainable use of natural resources and continuously reduce our ecological impact. This includes significantly avoiding plastic, reducing paper consumption and minimizing and recycling waste. Responsible use of water and the promotion of biodiversity are also important to us.
Field of action 3
Awareness & Knowhow
Raising the awareness of our employees and our environment for environmental issues and communicating our expertise in the areas of GreenTax and ESG is our third defined field of action. To raise awareness of environmental issues, we focus internally on communication, campaigns and specialist events. We offer our clients excellent advice on topics such as the Green Deal, energy and electricity tax. Our expert seminars on these topics are also open to other interested parties.

Continuous development

In order to minimize the environmental impact of our business activities, we rely on internal environmental projects, but also cooperate with recognized charitable organizations. We are continuously developing our catalog of measures together with our employees and thus making a positive contribution to a sustainable future step by step.

Our environmental policy

Environmental management: systematically implementing measures 

We document, monitor and control all significant environmental impacts of our activities with the help of our ISO 14001-certified environmental management system, which was implemented Group-wide in 2023.

In doing so, we not only take into account current environmental legislation, but also the requirements and expectations of our stakeholders. The clear definition of processes and responsibilities within our systematic environmental management system ensures the effective implementation of measures that contribute to the achievement of our environmental goals.

Mobility
As consultants, our clients are the focus of our work, so personal contact and the associated travel activities are essential. We make every effort to organize our business trips in an environmentally conscious manner. Our aim is to replace the majority of domestic flights with train travel. Whenever possible, we avoid traveling altogether and use web and video conferencing. We also attach great importance to being climate-friendly when traveling to work. In addition to subsidizing public transport tickets and a company car policy that supports the selection of low-emission vehicles, our employees can lease JobBikes.

Resources and waste
All WTS employees are required to use resources responsibly. For example, we avoid the use of plastic whenever possible and only use recycled paper with the Blue Angel label in our day-to-day business. Numerous digitalization projects are also aimed at continuously reducing our paper consumption. Our work generates relatively little waste. All waste is carefully separated and either recycled or disposed of according to type.

Energy and facility management
The WTS Group has grown considerably in recent years, meaning that larger office spaces were required at many locations. When renting new space, we take ecological aspects into account, especially energy efficiency. Smart heating and ventilation systems and intelligent lighting concepts are standard. When constructing new buildings, we attach great importance to a consistently sustainable approach. We use 100% green electricity at all our locations, which saves us considerable amounts of indirect CO2 emissions.

Green IT
As an innovative provider of tax advisory services that relies heavily on knowledge, data, digitalization and technology, we are aware of our special responsibility for the sustainable use of IT. One of our flagship projects in this area is our cooperation with the non-profit IT refurbisher AfB social and green, which we initiated at the beginning of 2022. We support the circular economy and focus on the intelligent reuse of laptops and computers.
It is up to us to secure the future of our planet - we can only tackle this task together.
Employees
Awareness
We attach great importance to promoting environmental awareness among our employees. In order to positively influence the environmental awareness of our workforce, WTS organizes a "Green Week" once a year, in which everything revolves around a key topic from the areas of health, environmental and climate protection.
Commitment 
Sustainability advisory board and fund
Through its sustainability fund, the WTS Group makes annual donations to projects that are committed to sustainable development. The fund is managed by the WTS Sustainability Advisory Board. When selecting the beneficiary initiatives, it is particularly important that they have a regional connection to our own WTS Group locations and pursue an educational approach.
