The WTS Group, one of the leading consulting firms for tax advice and financial advisory, is expanding its location in Frankfurt with two new teams around the new additions Axel Wagner and Matthias Schmidt. The total of nine people are specialized in advising in the areas of corporate tax, M&A and banking.
Axel Wagner joined from KPMG, where he has held various positions since 2014 and advised on a large number of national and international corporate transactions from a tax perspective. Prior to that, he worked in corporate tax law at the law firm P+P PÖLLATH + PARTNERS. Wagner has joined along with two other employees and will advise clients there, particularly on M&A deals, but also in the classic corporate tax environment.
Matthias Schmidt's focus is on tax advice to companies in the financial sector. He has worked in EY's Financial Services practice since 2010, where he supported international banks in particular in all tax-related matters, ranging from traditional ongoing tax advice to the implementation of tax compliance management systems and complex tax structuring issues. With Matthias Schmidt, five more people from EY joined WTS.
"At WTS, we have built up extensive expertise in advising companies in the financial sector over the past few years. In this context, we already advise numerous leading multinational banks with their German activities, particularly from Frankfurt. In view of the current developments surrounding Brexit, Germany's banking capital will continue to gain importance in the industry in the future. All the more I am pleased that we were able to win Matthias Schmidt and his team for us. Thus, we have once again strengthened this important field of consulting," explains Jürgen Scholz, Member of the Board of Directors of the WTS Group.
"At the same time, I would like to welcome Axel Wagner and his team to our ranks. With him, we have expanded our Frankfurt Corporate Tax unit, for which WTS partners Daniel Blöchle, Michael Ernst and Dr. Elisabeth Strobl-Haarmann are responsible. They will support us in ongoing tax advisory services and the further expansion of business partnering mandates in the region. In addition, we will significantly push the transaction business there with Axel Wagner and his many years of expertise in the tax handling of M&A deals."
The high caliber teams of Martin Schmidt and Alex Wagner encompassing recognized Corporate Banking and M&A expertise will strengthen the financial service practice of WTS Germany and WTS Global significantly. Leveraging upon the fast-growing WTS Global network as exemplified by FIDAL France, we envisage a significant competitive push, explains Jürgen Scholz, Member of the Board of Directors of the WTS Group.
