Transformation in the automotive sector

The automotive sector is undergoing a period of profound realignment. Declining volumes and sales, increased competition, technological advances, cost and efficiency pressures, volatile markets, and rising financing costs are putting pressure on manufacturers and suppliers of all sizes. At the same time, business models, portfolios, and value chains must be consistently aligned with future viability, particularly e-mobility and software.

In the area of financial advisory, we support our clients along the transformation agenda with three complementary service lines that integrate financial, digital, and transaction-related perspectives: 

Reporting & Regulatory

We provide support in the preparation of spin-off, pro forma, and special balance sheets, the design and implementation of effective internal control systems, as well as mergers and carve-outs. In addition, we assist with the optimization of cash pooling structures and the identification of hidden reserves in order to strengthen the distribution base in a targeted manner and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Digital Finance

In the area of digital finance, we design IT carve-outs and integrations, optimize the performance of shared service centers, and support S/4HANA transformations. In addition, we assist with the introduction of new reporting requirements such as CSRD and Public CbCR and ensure that financial and reporting processes are set up in a digital, scalable, and future-proof manner.

Deal Advisory

Our deal advisory services include the development of robust financial models and revolving plans, the preparation of S6 and restructuring reports, and support for M&A transactions, particularly in the area of peripheral activities in the mid-cap segment. In addition, we develop target operating models (TOM) for financial organizations and provide support for the outsourcing and realignment of financial processes.

 

Transformation agenda in the automotive sector

For many years, we have been supporting leading automotive manufacturers and suppliers in strategically important transformation projects – from comprehensive restructuring to digital finance and ERP transformations. This includes, among other things, the bundling of previously decentralized R&D activities in a group-owned holding company to leverage synergies, the realignment of a diversified, non-synergy-driven R&D landscape, and the design and implementation of an S/4HANA pilot project at an international OEM. Our project experience ranges from large OEMs to specialized suppliers and encompasses both national and international group structures.

 

Project examples from the automotive industry

BRUSS Sealing Systems

Support in drafting a supplementary agreement to the existing project contract and in technical matters relating to M&A, including advice on the potential sale of a subsidiary.


PWO

Support in restructuring the internal audit department, including operational support for audits and further development of the internal control system into a comprehensive, auditable system.

German automotive manufacturer: Support in the transformation and optimization of the purchase-to-pay (P2P) process through hands-on support in data clearing prior to the One-ERP go-live, the development of a task force concept in goods receipt, the identification of potential and quick wins, deriving a target vision with optimal location distribution, identifying decommissioning potential, and creating a position paper.

Service provider for a European automotive group: Financial support services in the course of the planned acquisition of a software platform

European automotive holding company in the commercial vehicle sector: Support in creating a contractual framework to ensure legal requirements in the area of transfer pricing (cooperation agreements) and implementation of project management for tracking measures and optimizing cooperation. Support in the introduction of SAP S/4HANA, including assistance with the first annual financial statements and coordination and supplementation of procedural documentation for an accounting team.

European commercial vehicle subsidiary: Implementation of a financial model including review of the valuation model and indicative valuation of a foreign sales company as well as other transaction-related issues, operational support for the internal team in IT audit matters and preparation of a fairness opinion including financial and tax structuring in connection with the sale of a subsidiary or possible liquidation.

European automotive electronics subsidiary: Support in preparing the 2025 consolidated financial statements of a European automotive systems company in accordance with HGB.

German development service provider for an automotive group: Support in the design and transformation of financial systems and processes as part of the SAP S/4HANA implementation, including project and process adjustments in accordance with IFRS 15, automation of project accounting, introduction of internal control systems and accompanying project controlling, annual financial statements and forecasting activities.
